September Program at the Minamiza Theatre: LUPIN III The beautiful azure castle, Matinee (September 2026)

A first visit to Minamiza’s second-floor west side brought a close view of the flying scene, plenty of audience banter, and two new plush friends. My matinee visit to Lupin the Third: Hekisui no Reijō was kabuki with everything on it.

Touken Ranbu AR Walk at the Minamiza Theatre (August 2025)

The kabuki Touken Ranbu: Azuma Kagami Yuki no Midare never fitted into my schedule, so I summoned sword warriors with the game app's AR Walk feature in front of the huge Minamiza signboard.

The Kaomise Maneki Boards at the Minamiza Theatre (December 2024)

No tickets for me this year, but just seeing the maneki boards up at the Minamiza was enough to make me giggle. A mini report on the sign that winter has come to Kyoto.
