I really wanted to see the kabuki Touken Ranbu, but the dates just would not line up. So I did the next best thing and held my own photo session in front of the signboard at the Minamiza, summoning sword warriors. As always, another wonderful day.
Summoning sword warriors with AR Walk
The Touken Ranbu game app has an AR feature called Walk that lets you call the sword warrior you have set as your attendant out into the real world and photograph him. Call him out, or should I say summon him?
I do this all the time, so I am well practised by now, and I had my shots in no time in front of the big red signboard at the Minamiza. Tarotachi, and Tsurumaru Kuninaga too. The sword warriors painted on the signboard and the summoned sword warrior in the very same frame: what a luxury. Now that I think about it, I could do this at the Kabukiza as well, could I not? Why has it never occurred to me before…

In the end I never made it to the show itself, so this time it was just me and the signboard. Sakon Onoe’s Kashu Kiyomitsu: I would have loved to see that. I should have summoned Kashu Kiyomitsu as well and had him stand next to Sakon.
Next time, may I make my sortie all the way to the honmaru.
