August Program at the Kabukiza Theatre: Part 2 (August 2026) | Subscription Service 3

Part 2 of the August Program at the Kabukiza, seen with my flat-rate theatregoing service. Kankuro and Koshiro in Rakuda were comedy at full power, plus the hand-drawn uchiwa display, a discovery about the east box seats, and a pre-curtain medetai-yaki.

August Program at the Kabukiza Theatre: Part 1 (August 2026) | Subscription Service 2

In Kaidan Botan Doro, the greedy humans turn out to be scarier than the ghosts. Ukon and Minosuke had me in stitches as the scheming couple, while Tatsunosuke's ghost was almost too adorable. My Part 1 experience from the second-floor front row.

July Program at the Kabukiza Theatre: Single Act Tickets, Suehirogari (July 2026, Second Visit)

With a few hours to spare, I dashed to the Kabukiza and caught Suehirogari from the Single Act seats, bought online that morning for 1,110 yen. A second Single Act visit, from the entrance to the 4th-floor view and one very confusing pair of opera glasses.

July Program at the Kabukiza Theatre: Matinee (July 2026)

My second-ever front row at the Kabukiza — once again at the far end. Watching the umbrella trick in 'Suehirogari' for the second time, and marveling at Matsuya's switch from villain to lord.

June Program at the Kabukiza Theatre: Matinee (June 2026)

The matinee of June Program at the Kabukiza Theatre, seen from a dobu seat by the hanamichi. Yukihime’s cherry-blossom snowstorm reached my hands, the new kabuki Lone Wolf and Cub was full of beauties, plus Hayato’s masking tape, a Kabukiza-only tenmusu bento and a long-awaited taiyaki.

June Program at the Kabukiza Theatre: Evening Show (June 2026)

Shichinosuke's Koman — beautiful even as a severed head — and Matsuya's chillingly emotionless Gengobei. A solo evening at the Kabukiza, enjoyed from the famous dobu seats along the hanamichi.

October Program at the Kabukiza Theatre: Part 3 (October 2025)

Part 3 (Cast A) of the full-length Yoshitsune and the Thousand Cherry Trees, marking Shochiku's 130th anniversary. Danko Ichikawa's fox Tadanobu was adorable and heartbreaking, with unaju before the show and medetai-yaki at last.
