Castle Hopping: Osaka Castle Route Map (October 2026)

This route map traces the way I walked around Osaka Castle, in photos. From Morinomiya Station, I went via the Tamatsukuri-guchi Entrance, the south outer moat, the dry moat, then through the Sakuramon Gate into the Honmaru. After the Kakushi-kuruwa, the Kokuin-ishi Hiroba, I left through the Kyobashi-guchi Entrance to walk along the outer moat. The spots appear in the order I took the photos (some of the smaller twists along the way are left out).

The Route I Walked and Time Spent

From Morinomiya Station, I entered through Tamatsukuri-guchi, followed the south outer moat and the dry moat, then went through Sakuramon into the Honmaru. After exploring Kakushi-kuruwa and Kokuin-ishi Hiroba, I left through Kyobashi-guchi and walked along the outer moat. I spent about three hours walking, looking at stone walls and turrets, and taking photos. I did not enter the main keep.

Solo Visit NoteThe path south of Hokoku Shrine is quiet, a lovely place to rest while gazing at the south outer moat. There are toilets all around the park, but none along this path, so it's best to go beforehand. There are vending machines in the Honmaru too, but on a hot day, bringing a large drink with you is a good idea. The grounds are vast, so printing a map in advance is handy. Bring a small umbrella in case of sudden rain, plus comfortable shoes.
