The finale of a trip is, of course, ramen. Before my flight home, I headed to Fukuoka Airport’s Ramen Runway. It’s a shop famous for its foam-style broth, but what I chose was the lighter shio-tonkotsu. Just the right lightness for a last bowl.
What kind of place is Hakata Ikkousha?
Hakata Ikkousha is a popular Hakata ramen shop known for what’s called the original foam-style: a tonkotsu pork-bone broth with fine, creamy foam and rich depth. The one I visited is in Ramen Runway on the 3rd floor of Fukuoka Airport’s domestic terminal. It’s an easy spot to swing by before boarding, and you buy a meal ticket from a vending machine. The turnover is quick, so it’s easy to pop in even on your own.
A Tabletop Journey: Hakata Ikkousha
From Ramen Runway to a bowl of shio-tonkotsu. A small tabletop journey through my last bowl before leaving Fukuoka Airport.
2 moments
01
Fukuoka Airport Ramen Runway
A ramen area on the 3rd floor of Fukuoka Airport’s domestic terminal, easy to visit before the flight home. This is where I chose the last bowl of the trip.
02
Shio-tonkotsu ramen with seasoned egg
Ikkousha brings to mind rich foam-style tonkotsu, but this bowl was the lighter type. The white broth looked tonkotsu-like, yet it was smooth and light enough for a pre-flight finish.
Wrap-up
One more bowl before leaving Fukuoka. It was bittersweet to go, but I am glad I got this last one in. Maybe next time I will go for the foam-style.
